Changing Seasons/God’s Hand in the Plan

Living through the Seasons of Life

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT)
Welcome to a New Season!

The first day of spring came on Friday; did you put out the welcome mat? Charles Dickens said, ”Spring is the time of year when it is summer in the sun and winter in the shade.”Â  As I thought about that I realized that the seasons of life are like that too. We have the warmth of life when all seems to be going our way and then when the overwhelming circumstances of life come, the winter of cold hardness descends upon us.

Each of the seasons though provide their own beauty and each their own issues. Just like the seasons of nature we never seem satisfied with the results or we seem to always pine away for whatever we do not have. Seasons come and seasons go but they do not all happen at the same time. An unknown source said, “Time is nature’s way of keeping everything from happening at once”. We do not plant our gardens in the winter with freezing temperatures and snow on the ground but we do plan them, full of hope for the spring to come.

What season of life are you in now? Are you planning for the next? I thought that I was moving into a warmer season but this week some circumstances came to light that have set me back into some cooler weather. Some seasons are just harder than others it seems, perhaps it is not the seasons themselves though, but the way we view the seasons that become the issue. There is beauty in every season if we realize that God is in control and that there is an appointed time for everything. We can accept the seasons as they come and go living in peace, or we can deny them living in misery. Either way the seasons will continue to come. God does not measure the changing of seasons with the time management tools we use but instead He moves through them revealing truths along the way, and that is where the beauty begins to make itself known. We can be assured that anytime there are new seasons to be explored God will be right there with us providing the warmth we need if we will look to the Cross.

This week our focus verse explores the seasons of life and the understanding that there is work to be done during each new season. This is because God has a plan for all people, no matter who we are or what choices we have made in the past. The current period allows us to make room for God to be with us and to allow Him to guide us through His plan. There can be beauty in all the seasons and knowing that God is in control of them should provide us not only peace but joy in our circumstances as Paul tells us in Philippians 4:8 ”“ 13.

Perhaps our perspective is what needs to change during lesser seasonal circumstances instead of the seasons themselves. Our winter seasons of life should be seen as opportunities to depend upon God more and to accept God’s timing in each season, understanding that this is the secret to peace and happiness with life. It is important to remember that trying to stay ahead of the seasons or anticipating when they may occur doesn’t matter but knowing with full confidence that God is in control does. We must maintain that there is a purpose for the process and reasons for the seasons.

Living For the Seasons of Life

Changing our attitude about the seasons is not always easy. When the frigid cold seasons overwhelm our lives, if we expect a thaw, we must turn to the light of God first and not as a last resort. Too often we look to man first to help us solve our problems, turning only to God when there is nothing else left. We must learn to look to God first, praying that He will provide a means on earth to help with the problems, and then be willing to accept that the timing may not come as fast as we want or the way we desire.  It should always be our goal to trust God in all aspects of life knowing that He is in control of all. This belief will provide peace during all the seasons no matter the circumstances. So how should you begin the process of depending on God?

Changing Seasons offers you three things that alter your perspective to depend upon God first.

  1. New Changes ”“ When each season comes about there are always new changes that occur, some good and some not so good. It is important that you look and accept God’s guidance during these new changes.
  2. New Issues ”“ Each change of season has a change of issues and life’s seasons are no different. It is during this time that you must make sure your faith is stable and strong so unforeseen or unstable circumstances will withhold the storms of new issues during the new season.
  3. New Lessons ”“ As the seasons change there is always an opportunity for learning. Sometimes it is applying what you already know and sometimes it is taking the time to step back and just appreciate the lessons being revealed as you move through the season. New lessons teach you to appreciate your seasons as a gift from God.

New Seasons are coming with new changes, issues, and lessons. You can look forward to them with a different attitude or you can look back to the seasons with regrets. New Seasons challenge you to put your full trust and faith in God before all other things. The motivation to do this is that there is a plan and God will be with you as His plan reveals itself in His timing. But more than anything there is great comfort in knowing that with God there is hope for the future, for without Him, life’s problems have no solution and you would have no hope.

The changing seasons are always upon us and God’s hands are always in the plans.

Love in Christ,

E.J.
