A Changing World Holds No Security

Security Threats

Paper World Lotus with Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow by Studio 1-37Nothing is permanent except change. Everything is changing rapidly around us. Technology, climate, temperament, and leadership are just a few of the ever-changing things in world that we live in. Sometimes change is good but often times change just makes us feel insecure.

I would like to say that I embrace change and adore the adventure of new things and ways. However truthfully I only like the idea of change not the actual action of change or going through it. But once I have made it through the situations of change I am generally fine with the result and often don’t understand why I approached it hesitantly.

The changing ways of life are mostly dreaded because it upsets our security. We like to test all the answers and see the results before we commit to the change. It is more secure and comfortable to know what is going to happen before we make a firm and committed decision. It is important to have the strength to rely upon something dependable and stable to see us through the changing times.

Seeking Security in Changing Circumstances

A group of botanists went on an expedition into a remote location in the Alps. They were searching for new varieties of flowers. One day as one of the scientist looked through his binoculars, he saw a beautiful, rare species growing at the bottom of a narrow, deep ravine. In order to reach the plant, someone would have to be lowered into the gorge. Unfortunately, all the members in the group were too large. As the scientist looked around he noticed a young local boy standing nearby trying to see what all the fuss was about. The man asked him if he would help them get the flower.

The boy was told that a rope would be tied around his waist and the men would then lower him to the floor of the ravine. The excited boy was very apprehensive about the adventure as he looked into the dark depths below. Just before he allowed the men to prepare him for his descent he yelled, ”Wait! I’ll be right back.” When he returned, an older man accompanied him. The boy approached the head botanist and said, ”I’ll go down into the cavern now and get the flower for you, but this man must hold the rope.” The botanist appeared puzzled until the boy explained, ”He’s my father.”

Security Promises

Security is important to all of us. We want to know that someone ”has our back.” That we can rest assure that the comfortable security of the today’s and tomorrow’s will be the same as the secure yesterdays. There is only one that holds the guarantee of not changing and that is in the arms of our Lord. For in a constantly changing world we can trust our unchanging God. Click To Tweet

This week our focus verse speaks boldly reminding us that Christ is the ultimate leader and our security. He has not and will not ever change. He remains the same forever. His love for us is as consistent and persistent today as it was yesterday and as it will be forever. Christ’s justness and mercy are never-changing. We are secure in our trust in the unchanging God knowing that He is the alpha and omega. In our world on earth, yesterday is as it was, today can change in a moment, and the changes of the future are unknown. But in God there are no changes for He will remain the same forever and that is full security for all of us.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8 (NLT)

Understanding Security in a Changing World

It is often difficult to understand why God provides security in the ever-changing world. Why does He give us the strength and stability of His love when we all are such a mess? Christian leader, Watchman Nee explains clearly; I have a wonderful dog. He is house-trained and never makes a mess. My dog is obedient and simply a pure delight to me. I also have a son, a baby son. He makes a mess! He throws his food around, he fouls up his clothes, and is loud and demanding. Which one of these are going to inherit my ”kingdom.” Not my dog but my son for he is my heir. You are Jesus Christ’s heir because it is for you that He died. This position of Christ’s heir is not through your perfection but by means of His grace.

You can place your life on the principals of Christ because you are His heir. Embracing the changing world is possible because His principals will never change no matter what is occurring around you.

Holding onto a Changing Life with Security

Won’t you put and leave your trust fully in Christ knowing that He will never change in any aspect? Earthly principals of life can be fully placed in the trust of Him depending most assuredly upon Jesus and not the things of this world. The challenge is to give your security fully over to Christ knowing that He is the same and will never change. You can rely securely in Him for the ultimate way to life staying within the boundaries of God’s law.

Control is not in your hands but in God’s. Isn’t it time you allow the unchanging stable light of Christ to be your guide through forever? Some people will change when they see the light while others change when they feel the heat. Find your security in the changing world today basking in the light of forever.

Yours in Christ,

E.J.

Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.
