Look Up to Solve Your Problems
How is your problem solving this week? What was your first step? Did you look up for the answers? Brenda was filling in as the substitute Sunday school teacher in the children’s department. Since she wasn’t familiar with the setup she decided to head over to the church and get everything ready for the children she was to teach. She located the supply cabinet and attempted several times to get the combination lock to open but it just didn’t seem to work.
So, she went to see if there was anyone available to help. As she went down the hall she met the Pastor who agreed to come and help. He began turning the lock’s dial, stopped after the first two numbers, and then looked up serenely toward heaven. A moment later he began moving his lips silently, turned to the final number, and opened the lock. Amazed, Brenda exclaimed, ”I’m in awe of your faith, pastor.” He looked at her puzzled and then smiled, ”Really, it’s nothing. If you look up you will see the final number is on a piece of tape on the ceiling.”
Do you ever wish the answers to life’s problems were as simple as looking at the ceiling to see the answers written there? Wouldn’t it be nice if every time we came upon a difficult problem in life all we had to do is look up?
The Final Instructions
Well, for a believer in Christ that is exactly how to solve the combination to the final instructions. We are to look up to gain what we need to live our life successfully. There is a set of 5 instructions that Paul spells out for us while we wait upon Christ that is only accomplished by first looking up.
Be on guard, Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love. 1 Corinthians 16:13 (NLT)
These instructions truly provide all you need to get through life. For when you are always on guard and firm in your faith, you have the necessary courage to move forward. You hold the ability for the strength given only by the one who provides it which allows you to accomplish everything in love. There are no better instructions found than to simply look up and follow the GSC-SaL formula to unlock the combination for life.
This formula begins with a G ”“ for being on Guard. There are many things in the world that even Christians must watch out for like pride, divisions, and sin. These things cannot only destroy lives but the church if not watched carefully.
S ”“ is the next letter to remember as it indicates to Stand firm. This is to make sure that your belief finds its root in the original true gospel. You must not allow it to change or be altered to suit the world’s standards.
The third formula letter is C. It takes courage to move forward amid swirling and whirling problems along with the adversities of the world. Courage in Faith comes by remembering that God is in control and acknowledging that He is always watching over you.
The last half of the formula is how you accomplish the first half. This begins with the big S’s found in being strong with the strength that the Holy Spirit provides. God knows and provides the needed help to be on guard, stand firm, and hold onto courage so He provides the means to do all three by sending the Holy Spirit to our aid.
LÂ -Â The final instructions are the very same that Christ preached, “and do everything in Love.” Love does so much as it heals, soothes, and helps. It is said that if everything is not done in love then all you are doing is making a lot of noise fueled only by pride.
The final instructions in life summed up for believers is to know that you are to live as a citizen of heaven and in a manner worthy of Christ. It is important to remember that you must stay true to God and remember this is not your home. (Philippians 1:27; 4:1)
The Highest Goal
The GSC-SaL formula ends with Love, but make no mistake that is not because it is the least important instead it is the one instruction that you should not forget. Love must always be our highest goal in life but to reach that goal you must look up. Looking up gives you the answers to your problems in life by remembering to be on guard, standing firm with courage, and accepting the strength provided to reach the highest of the goals. For love is the most important instruction.
So, remember the GSC-Sal formula to challenge yourself to follow the 5 instructions to unlock the combination to handling life’s problems. Find your conviction in the written word allowing your motivation to root itself in knowing that God will help you achieve the 5 just by asking. And finally, be comforted in knowing that God always provides the way and means to get through life. He is indeed Good.
Love in Christ,
Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord. Psalm 119:1(NLT)
