It is now officially Summer and probably before too much time passes, we will find ourselves longing for Fall. A few weeks ago, it seemed that Summer came a bit too early with soaring temperatures and a lack of rain. I began having to water plants that were withering in the dryness and heat as I watched my lawn go from needing a weekly trim to no trim at all. My garden pond water was dropping daily, and it wasn’t long before my rainwater reserves were depleted. My concern grew as I didn’t want to have to pay the city for water to keep the pond levels up. And so, I began longing for rain.

Perhaps you seek happiness in all the wrong places or maybe what you think will bring you satisfaction in life just doesn’t do the trick. Often when we view the “grass on the other side” we realize it isn’t greener just a different hue. It is tempting to think that others have it easier or that more of everything will satisfy our life. The exhausting events of the last month have left me feeling tired. The New Year kicked in hard this week and even though the schedule is back on track a rest and renew sounds like it should be in order. What comes to your mind when you think about or visualize the words, rest and renew? Perhaps it is de-stressing by lying on the warm beach under a blue sky listening to the waves roll in one after the other or maybe rest and renew to you is reading by a roaring fire in the fireplace of a mountain cabin while the snow banks up against the windows. Perhaps though it is the simple comfort that is found away from your busy life or collecting strength to make it through the day-to-day challenges you face. Whatever our idea of resting and renewing is we can find the ultimate respite and peace with God by the trusting assurance of this week’s focus verse ”“ Matthew 11:28;

Then Jesus said, ”Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens and I will give you rest”. (NLT)
