Warning Lights – Trouble Ahead?

Warning - A Studio 1-37 Original Image

Have you ever had warning lights come up on your car or some other large ticket item that you own? It is one of the most frustrating things that happen in my car and it usually occurs when I am out of town. I have been informed by my dealership that if the light is solid, there is no need to panic but if it flashes then get help immediately. I don’t care for either and certainly not the later but they both indicate that there can be possible trouble ahead.

One of the major concerns regarding this light is it can be a multitude of things ranging from the simple process of just placing the gas cap on properly, to something very serious and or costly. The only way it can be accurately diagnosed is by a technician plugging in a device that will give he or she an error code from the car’s computer. Once they know the code then they can look it up to see what is causing the problem. Wouldn’t it be great that when the problems of life are soon to hit that we could plug in and determine what our next step should be?

Solid or Flashing, Know Where to Go

Most everyone holds some life experience that causes the warning lights, solid or flashing, to come on. It might be something simple or it could indicate a very serious life-altering event. Whether the warning lights of life are solid or flashing, there is an immediate need to plug in for help. More often than not, we find ourselves attempting to ignore the solid lights of life or handle them on our own. This occurs even when we know there may be trouble ahead.

Unfortunately, when we operate our lives in this manner, we tend to live a life always expecting problems. This occurs while exhausting ourselves with trying to make the repairs alone. Sometimes it takes a flashing warning light to get our attention to realize that we need help in the worst way. But if we are in a habit of handling life on our own because we think it gives us more control, then when the flashing lights come, we don’t know where to turn. This is why it is important to know where to go for help all the time.

Confidence in the One Watching Out for You

It is important to have confidence when you are seeking someone to watch out and help you. Once there were two strangers fishing on the banks of the Mississippi River, an old man and a young boy. The fishing wasn’t so great but as time passed the conversation made up for it. As the sun began to sink in the western sky the conversation covered many topics. When dusk set in it was noticed that in the distance a large riverboat was slowly moving toward the pair. When the boy saw the boat, he began to wave his arms and jump up and down so he could attract the attention of those on board.

The man watched the boy do this for some time and finally said, ”Son, you’re foolish if you think that boat is going to stop for you. It’s on its way to some unknown place and has no time for a boy.” But to the man’s amazement suddenly the boat slowed down and then moved to the bank of the river. And then a gangplank lowered to the shoreline as the stunned man looked on. As the boy entered the boat, he turned and said to his new friend on the shore. ”I’m not foolish, mister. You see, I know the captain of this boat, for he is my father, watching out for me.”

When you hold a union with the Father, you hold the power to do His will and face the challenges that arise from your commitment to Him. We don’t like to admit our weaknesses to others, but it is important to admit them to Christ. For when we recognize that we need Christ to carry us through our days, we are prepared for life.

Gaining the Strength, You Need

Gaining the strength, you need in life is important. Too often we attempt to rely on our own strength in times of trouble, but the Apostle Paul reminds us that with Christ, we gain the strength we need, to “do life.” For it is through Christ that we hold the device needed to get through the warning lights as He directs our path toward the places, people, or ways to keep us moving. He alone provides our strength through the troubles, pressures, and trials we face, replacing them with a secret peace.

For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:13 (NLT)

If we keep our attention to Christ during all times, it helps us realize that He fully understands all aspects of our life. We can rejoice in His love that holds no limits or conditions as it is in this understanding that peace arrives in abundance. By practicing both continued communion and reliance on Him throughout the day, we hold the ability to bless others with a quiet and gentle spirit. In addition, this daily preparation allows us to hold elements of peace even in troubled times.

It is only through depending on God’s power for our effectiveness that we affirm His strength. For our own efforts, energy, and talents not only will not take us very far, they most often turn into warning lights that start as solid and eventually goes to flashing, shutting us down in our tracks. These flashing lights require the power of God to get us up and running again. When in our weakness, we allow God to fill us with His power, we become stronger than we ever can be on our own. This allows us to be effective for Him and hold our purpose with lasting value.

The Secret Alliance Available to All

An inner lush and beautiful life requires a secret alliance with a benefactor. They say that if you fly over the vast desert of California you will notice occasional small green squares that signal thriving farms surrounded by shifting sand. These farms survive even in the midst of all the hostility around them. They are able to do so because these fertile oases draw water from deep within the earth, a river whose source is the snow-capped mountains in the west. The farms are well provided for and safe because they hold a secret alliance with the mountains.

You, too, can hold an alliance with your creator providing you the peace you need to survive any circumstance. Won’t you challenge yourself to depend fully on Christ for not only the warning lights of life but to rely on His strength, so you can make a difference every day of your life? Root your convictions in knowing that He will never leave you or forsake you. For it is with this belief, that you can live in close contact with the Light of His Presence. This allows you to not only deal with the warning lights of life but to bless others in the process. Rejoice in the motivation that His love for you holds no limits or conditions. And lastly, surround yourself in the comfort of knowing that His strength and power show themselves most effectively in your weakness.

Show the world that you hold the device to handle all types of warning lights that may come before you because you hold an alliance with Christ; your strength and salvation.

Love in Christ,

E.J.

Postscript

Many Christians estimate difficulties in the light of their own resources, and thus attempt little and often fail in the little they attempt. All God’s giants have been weak men who did great things for God because they reckoned on His power and presence with them.
